About The Owner- John Gola

Baseball card collecting is a hobby that's been part of the American landscape for over 100 years and appeals to fans of all ages. I was first introduced to collecting as a kid in Michigan, but like most youngsters, turned my focus to other interests once graduating from High School and relocating to Phoenix in the 1970's.

After obtaining my general contracting license in 1980, I proceeded to build my business and now, over 35 years later, continue to build retail stores in shopping malls all over the Phoenix valley.

In 1993, the collecting bug resurfaced as I was spending a weekend meeting my future in-laws in rural Springerville, Arizona. Passing some time by visiting the local general store, I found a sale on 1993 Leaf baseball cards featuring Mike Piazza, Frank Thomas and other future Hall-of-Fame players. I bought out the entire stock and have never looked back.

Over the years, my collection and my love for the hobby have both grown dramatically and I always felt that being more involved with the business would be great fun. In March of 2016, that opportunity presented itself when, due to the untimely passing of Don Yount, AZ Sportscards became available. Learning the industry has been challenging, but with great support from family & friends, it has also been great fun. We have customers of all ages, shapes and sizes and they all love the atmosphere of the store. Once you become a regular customer, it's almost like the characters from "Cheers"...everyone knows your name.

On March 1st, 2017, we'll celebrate the one year anniversary of this enterprise and we hope you'll become part of the store's extended family.
